Arcos Brasil was founded in 1995 to bring together a new, talented generation of bow makers, some of the best available pernambuco wood in Brazil and a fully-committed conservation programme to help preserve and sustain this crucial and endangered tree. The programme has propagated, planted and distributed over 200,000 pernambuco seedlings, 20,000 of which have now reached maturity. The three Chagas brothers are a key component in the eight-strong, highly skilled team of Arcos Brasil bow makers. These beautifully finished, “limited edition” violin bows were handmade by Claudio, the eldest brother, who has been making bows since 1997.
